Terms of Service

Effective date: July 25, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of ScribeSquirrel.com and its services, including the paid audiobook-generation service and the free PDF-to-EPUB converter (collectively, the "Service"). These Terms are an agreement between you and the operator of ScribeSquirrel ("ScribeSquirrel," "we," "us," or "our").

By accessing or using the Service, creating an account, or purchasing an audiobook-generation job, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be legally capable of entering into a binding agreement to use the Service. If you use the Service for an organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.

The Service is not directed to children under 13. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

2. What ScribeSquirrel provides

ScribeSquirrel provides tools for reading and listening to long-form content:

  • The paid audiobook service accepts an eligible PDF, EPUB, or TXT file, extracts readable text, generates synthetic narration using the voice selected by the customer, and produces an MP3 for download.
  • The free PDF-to-EPUB converter converts eligible PDF files into reflowable EPUB files.

Conversion and narration results depend on the source file. Scans, image-heavy files, complex layouts, tables, equations, unusual formatting, protected files, and poor-quality text may produce incomplete or inaccurate results. The Service does not promise that an output will reproduce every element of a source file or be free of pronunciation, extraction, formatting, or narration errors.

3. Accounts

Some features require you to sign in using Google. You are responsible for maintaining control of your account and for activity performed through it. You must provide accurate information and notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.

Google sign-in is used only to identify your ScribeSquirrel account and associate it with your audiobook jobs. ScribeSquirrel does not request access to your Google Drive, Gmail, or other Google services.

4. Your files, rights, and responsibilities

You retain whatever rights you already hold in the files you upload and in the content they contain. ScribeSquirrel does not acquire ownership of your source material.

You represent and warrant that:

  • you own the uploaded content or have all permissions, licenses, and other rights needed to upload and process it;
  • your use of the Service and any resulting output will comply with applicable law and any license governing the source material;
  • you will not use the Service to bypass digital-rights management, passwords, access controls, or copyright restrictions; and
  • you will not distribute, publish, sell, publicly perform, or otherwise exploit an output unless you have the legal right to do so.

You grant ScribeSquirrel a limited, non-exclusive license to host, copy, extract, transmit, transform, and otherwise process your uploaded content only as needed to provide, secure, troubleshoot, and support the Service. This license ends when the relevant content is deleted, except for limited copies we are legally required to retain.

ScribeSquirrel does not grant you any new copyright or distribution rights in your source material. Your rights in a generated audiobook remain subject to the rights and license restrictions that apply to the underlying content.

5. Acceptable use

You may not use the Service to:

  • violate copyright, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights;
  • process content you are not authorized to use;
  • upload unlawful, malicious, or harmful material;
  • generate or distribute content for fraud, harassment, exploitation, or other unlawful conduct;
  • interfere with, probe, overload, reverse engineer, or circumvent the Service or its security controls;
  • introduce malware or automated traffic that unreasonably burdens the Service; or
  • resell access to the Service without our written permission.

We may reject files, suspend processing, remove outputs, restrict access, or terminate accounts when reasonably necessary to protect users, third parties, or the Service, or to comply with law.

6. Pricing, checkout, and taxes

The current price and included limits are displayed on the ScribeSquirrel website and at checkout. As of the effective date, one audiobook-generation job costs US$4.99 and includes one eligible source file of up to 50,000 words. There is currently no recurring charge. ScribeSquirrel may introduce an optional subscription tier in the future. Any subscription price, billing interval, included usage, renewal terms, and cancellation process will be disclosed before a customer subscribes.

We may change prices or limits for future purchases. A change will not alter a completed purchase.

Checkout is processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy may collect payment information, calculate applicable taxes, issue receipts, screen transactions for fraud, and process refunds or chargebacks under its terms. ScribeSquirrel does not receive or store your full payment-card details. Additional tax may be applied at checkout unless the displayed price is tax-inclusive.

7. Delivery and temporary availability

Audiobook generation may continue after you leave the site. When processing succeeds, the MP3 is made available through the purchasing account. Finished MP3 files are normally retained for approximately 14 days and may then be permanently deleted. You are responsible for downloading and securely storing your MP3 during the availability period.

Files created by the free PDF-to-EPUB converter are also temporary. The website will display the applicable download and expiration window.

Processing times are estimates, not guarantees. Technical failures, maintenance, capacity limits, third-party providers, or the source file itself may delay or prevent completion.

8. Refunds

Purchases are subject to the ScribeSquirrel Refund Policy and to any mandatory rights under applicable law. Lemon Squeezy, as merchant of record, may process refunds and retains any independent rights described in its buyer terms.

9. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties, including Google for authentication, Lemon Squeezy for checkout, Cloudflare for private storage and delivery, and Replicate or other processing providers for narration. Your use of third-party features may also be governed by their terms and privacy policies.

We are not responsible for a third-party service outside our control, but this section does not limit any responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. ScribeSquirrel intellectual property

The Service, website, software, design, branding, and documentation are owned by ScribeSquirrel or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purpose.

You may not copy, sell, sublicense, or create derivative works from the Service itself except as permitted by law or with our written permission.

11. Feedback

If you voluntarily provide suggestions or feedback about ScribeSquirrel, you allow us to use that feedback without restriction or compensation. This does not grant us rights in your uploaded books or documents.

12. Service changes and termination

We may update, limit, suspend, or discontinue all or part of the Service. Where reasonably possible, we will avoid interfering with a paid job already in progress or will provide an appropriate remedy if we cannot deliver it.

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially or repeatedly violate these Terms, create legal or security risk, or misuse the Service.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination—including provisions about rights, payment, disclaimers, liability, and disputes—will survive.

13. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, a particular conversion or narration quality, compatibility with every source file or device, or that outputs will be error-free.

ScribeSquirrel is a technical processing service. It does not verify ownership of uploaded content and does not provide legal advice about copyright, licensing, fair use, accessibility, or distribution.

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, guarantees, or other rights that cannot legally be excluded.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ScribeSquirrel will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, business, or opportunity arising from the Service.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ScribeSquirrel's total liability arising from a paid audiobook job will not exceed the amount you paid for that job. This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot legally be limited, including liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or other categories protected by applicable law.

15. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold ScribeSquirrel harmless from third-party claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your uploaded content, your unlawful use or distribution of an output, or your material breach of Sections 4 or 5. This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim was caused by ScribeSquirrel's own unlawful conduct.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms as the Service changes or as required by law. The current version and effective date will be posted on this page. Material changes will apply prospectively. By continuing to use the Service after revised Terms take effect, you agree to the revised Terms.

17. Governing rules

These Terms are governed by applicable law, without depriving consumers of mandatory protections available in their country or state of residence. Before filing a formal claim, you and ScribeSquirrel agree to make a reasonable effort to resolve the issue informally.

18. Contact

Questions about these Terms may be sent to alec@scribesquirrel.com.
